What to do in Charlottetown

The historic charm of the Victorian buildings beautifully contrasts with modern Confederation Centre of the Arts, home to a theatre and a fascinating gallery. One of the best shows to see is Anne of Green Gables – The Musical, inspired by Lucy Maud Montgomery’s novel based in Prince Edward Islands green landscapes.

Once you’ve arrived in Charlottetown we’re sure you’ll be taken aback by its beauty and want to explore straight away. There are plenty of walking trails to follow, or you could join ‘The Fathers and Ladies of Confederation’ walking tour and stroll along with guides dressed in full period costume. If your legs are feeling weary, a carriage ride is a great way to explore the city too.

Foodies will love Charlottetown’s food-based festivities. Our favourite is the PEI International Shellfish Festival, a celebration of the island’s sumptuous oysters, lobsters and mussels, filled with maritime music, oyster shucking competitions and great culinary demonstrations.

Those who fancy a bit of respite will relish a boat cruise out to Hillsborough Bay, or you’re never far away from a beach.

Best time to visit Charlottetown

Much like its province, Prince Edward Island, Charlottetown is best visited in the summer. July can get quite humid, especially when walking through busy streets, whilst is September the weather turns milder and the crowds start to thin. It’s best to check attraction opening times though – some tend to close near the end of the summer.
