Overview

A unique opportunity to combine two great Canadian experiences – viewing the spectacular Northern Lights in the vast skies of the Yukon and discovering the history of the Klondike Gold Rush. You will begin with a few days orientation in Vancouver before flying north to Whitehorse – the capital of the Yukon Territory but with a population of just 41,000 and with an entry in the Guinness World Records as the city with the least air pollution in the world. Here you will view the Northern Lights for the first time on guided evening excursions. Then you will head further north into the Yukon to charismatic Dawson City – home of the Klondike Gold Rush, where you will discover it’s fascinating history and be able to pan for gold yourself!

This is an independent tour, where you will have your transportation included and enjoy the services of local guides on arrival in Whitehorse and Dawson City.

Day 1

Fly to Vancouver

Arrive into Vancouver for a two night stay in this charming waterfront city.

Overnight: Georgian Court Hotel Vancouver

Day 2

Vancouver at leisure

A day to enjoy Vancouver at your own pace. We can book you a city tour by bus, with bikes or on foot, or you can head to Granville Island for a foodie experience. Alternatively, simply walk the seawall to Stanley Park to take in the lovely views of the harbour with its mountain backdrop.

Day 3

Fly to Whitehorse

Independently transfer to Vancouver airport to pick up your flight to Whitehorse, capital of the Yukon Territory. On arrival take the complimentary shuttle to your hotel, where you will stay for the next two nights and where your Winter Clothing Package will be waiting for you. You have some free time to explore this charming town, filled with Gold Rush history. In the evening you will be picked up by your guide who will take you for a Northern Lights viewing excursion and your first experience of the spectacular colours of the Aurora Borealis across the night sky.

Day 4

Whitehorse

A free day to experience more of Whitehorse and visit some of the local sites such as the SS Klondike, Beringia Centre or the Transportation Museum. Or you could take an optional dog sledding tour.

Days 5 and 6

Whitehorse - Dawson City

Take the complimentary shuttle to Whitehorse airport and board your morning flight to Dawson City where you will be met and transferred to your hotel for a two night stay. Ever since the gold rush days, Dawson City has been a good-time town and it still invokes the atmosphere of a bygone age with guides in period costume tour the historical buildings, paddle-wheelers sail down the Yukon River and you can still pan for gold. During your time in Dawson City you will enjoy several guided tours including a City and Goldfields Tour, a visit to Dawson City Museum and a Dawson City Walking Tour. Every evening you will also enjoy a Northern Lights Viewing Tour to see more of the unique, ever-changing natural fireworks.

Day 7

Dawson City - Whitehorse

After a leisurely morning in Dawson City you’ll be transferred to the airport for your midday flight to Whitehorse, and then on arrival in Whitehorse take the shuttle to your hotel for a final night.

Day 8

Whitehorse – Vancouver – End of tour

Take the shuttle to the airport to fly to Vancouver and then it’s time to either be homeward bound or continue your Canadian adventure. You could fly to Calgary and enjoy a few days in the winter wonderland of Banff National Park (Dec to March departures) - Banff and Lake Louise Winter Experience
